Matthew 11:28-30 (Part 3)

One of the biggest mistakes we can make is thinking that we can find true rest on our own. I understand we might need some time on our own. But it is the mindset that we can find true rest without God. We have learned from Matthew 11:28-30 that we need to Come to Jesus (Matthew 11:28-30 Part 1 Post) and take his yoke (Matthew 11:28-30 Part 2). Now, we will see that the third and final step Jesus gives us to find rest is, Learn from me.

Remember what the meaning of the Yoke is? It is a pair of animals that are pulling the load together, side-by-side. Jesus is not saying, here is my yoke and have fun! At the end of verse 29, it says “for I am gentle and humble in heart.” There are times where farmers would take a trained animal, and pair it with an untrained animal. That way, the untrained animal can learn how to carry the load. As we continue reading, we see in verse 30. “For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” We do not have to be scared now. Jesus will be with us every step of the way. As Jesus told Joshua in Joshua 1:5, “I will never leave you nor forsake you” (NIV, 1984) God will not leave you!

Even if you feel alone and afraid, God is still with you. When you are stressed out, worried, burdened, or confused, God will be with you. Remember, we not only need to go to God, but we also need to trust Him. He will provide everything you need. It might not be what you want, but it is what you need.
