Special Delivery (Part 1)

As an Amazon Driver, I do not know what is inside the packages I deliver. So, when a customer asks me, “what is the package?” I tell them the truth, “I do not know.” You see, only the person who ordered the package knows what is inside. Sometimes, people are surprised to see me and ask themselves, “what did I order?” To be honest, I sometimes have that same question when I get a package from Amazon. Now, there have been moments where a person sent me a gift, and just do not know it until I open the package to find what is inside.

When we open up Scripture, we see that there was a package sent to us. John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life” (NIV, 1984). This special gift was God’s son, Jesus. He was sent to die on the cross and rise again on the third day.

There are moments where we would cancel an order or even send the package back, because we do not want it anymore. However, this gift is something we all need. Jesus did not die for a few selected people. Jesus died for everyone, but it is up to us to accept this gift of salvation as our own. The only way to eternal life with God, is through His son, Jesus. Remember what we see in John 3:16, “…that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life” (NIV, 1984). Jesus is saying that there is only one way to heaven. We are to look to Jesus and believe in Him. More than acknowledge the existence of Jesus, but believe that He is our risen Messiah. Sent to deliver us from sin.
