Mark 1:21-28

               Jesus and the new disciples are in the Synagogue in Capernaum. The way He is teaching it nothing like the people are used to. It says in Mark 1:22, “…he taught them as one who had authority, not as the teachers of the law” (ESV). Jesus did not teach what all the other Jewish leaders taught, but He taught like one who at the same authority.

               While they were in the Synagogue, there was a man who was possessed with an impure spirit. This spirit knows who Jesus is. In verse 24, it says, ‘“I know who you are—the Holy One of God” (ESV)! Jesus was able to bring the impure spirit out of the man and he was healed.

               All the people who were there were amazed! They had never seen a person do something like this: a man who spoke with authority and one who can cast our impure spirits. As we see in this section, people took this event and the word got around about Jesus and what He did.
