Psalm 23:5

As we get to verse five, we find that David is saying that God prepares a table for me, in front of our enemies. This imagery helps people understand that God is preparing a feast for us. This is like Thanksgiving, a massive feast. This is what God is preparing for us! However, He is not just making this feast in secret, but in front of our enemies. This means that the preparations are being made in public.

Then God, “anoints us with oil.” During this time in history, if someone anoints another person, it would a great honor. You would be considered as a special person at the feast. Being the guest of honor at the big feast. Even though we do not deserve being anointed by God, He loves us and wants to prepare this special table for us. This is an insight to the love of God for us. He wants us to love Him too.
